If he could learn to love another, and earn her love in return by the time the last petal fell, then the spell would be broken. If not, he would be doomed to remain a beast for all time.
Once upon a time, in a faraway land, A young Prince lived in a shining castle Although he had everything his heart desired, The Prince was spoiled, selfish, and unkind. But then, one winter’s night, an old beggar-woman came to the castle, And offered him a single rose in return for shelter from the bitter cold. Repulsed by her haggard appearance, the Prince sneered at the gift and turned the old woman away, But she warned him not to be deceived by appearances, For beauty is found within. And when he dismissed her again, the old woman’s ugliness melted away To reveal a beautiful Enchantress. The Prince tried to apologize, but it was too late, For she had seen that there was no love in his heart. And as punishment, she transformed him into a hideous Beast, and placed a powerful spell on the castle, and all who lived there. Ashamed of his monstrous form, the Beast concealed himself inside his castle, with a magic mirror as his only window to the outside world. The rose she had offered was truly an enchanted rose, which would bloom until his 21st year. If he could learn to love another, and earn her love in return, By the time the last petal fell, then the spell would be broken. If not, he would be doomed to remain a beast for all time. As the years passed, he fell into despair, and lost all hope. For who could ever learn to love a Beast?
Storyboards from Beauty and the Beast by Glen Keane
I should be saving money but I couldn’t help it. Plus most of this was sold out online. I am loving the iPhone case!! Need the rapunzel one!
If you look closely at this picture, you will see that the book Belle’s Mother is holding is titled La Belle au Bois Dormant, or in its English title Sleeping Beauty. On the back of the book is the crown of Princess Aurora, or Sleeping Beauty. This is the book Belle is most likely referencing when she is talking to the bookshop seller. Far off places, a fairytale kingdom; daring sword fights, Prince Philip and Maleficent; magic spells, the fairies’ and Maleficent’s magic; and a prince in disguise, Prince Philip is dressed as a peasant when he meets Briar Rose. Everything fits!
I imagine Belle was so happy to befriend the beloved princess in her favorite story!
here’s where she meets prince charming
but she won’t discover that it’s him ‘till chapter 3
THIS IS NOW MY HEADCANON
This is beautiful.
I also love how we have a canon of what Belle’s mother looks like.
sobbing b/c aurora
This is going on the headcanons page. -gets to typing-
When I watched Beauty and the Beast as a kid, I IMMEDIATELY thought “hey, she’s reading Sleeping Beauty!” without a single doubt :)) It was the “she won’t discover that it’s him til chapter 3” bit that sealed the deal for me.
Glad to see it’s been confirmed! And MORE HEAD CANON
HER MOM PROBABLY NAMED HER AFTER THE BOOK TITLE :D Awwwww might have been their favorite book to read together. And despite Belle’s intelligence and higher standard for herself (which is great and healthy, thanksverymuch), she’s still a romantic at heart ;)
but they said the page Belle turns to was supposed to represent her and Beast…
I am in love with this.
“I knew just how much my fiance loved me when he agreed to let me walk down the aisle to “Beauty and the Beast”“
